Viewing Pavilion of Reciprocity
2014
This viewing pavilion is designed as a place for visitors to look out into the sunset view, while appreciating the structural playfulness. There are elements throughout the structure that provide recreational spaces, such as reflection pool with step stones, bleachers along the hill, and shaded area in between the two large viewing decks.

Initial Concept
The initial concept was derived from a simple structural analysis of sticks and plains.

Overall View
The Viewing Pavilion was designed on a steep hill with a view looking out to the South. The sloped roof redirects rainwater down to reflection pools that are placed on the top of the hill, eventually bringing the rainwater down to the large reflection pool through a scupper.

Bleachers and Stairs
The extreme slope on the site is utilized to provide not only the vertical movement, but also a space for visitors to sit and enjoy the surrounding structure and nature.

Interior Structure
Looking out the Viewing Pavilion, the structure frames the scene with intersecting forms.

Back Entrance
The back entrance leads to a small reflection pool and an open plan that connects to the two viewing platforms.
